I received a BFA. Studio Painting. I loved it. I lived in Santa Fe and commuted daily. Wouldn't be able to do that today. I live in Florida now. I love that too.

Before working with Edna Casman, it would never have occurred to me to collaborate with anyone. I had a small art school in Albuquerque for ten years. Edna showed up as an advanced student. She had been painting realistically for several years. She started when she was about sixty. She had studied painting on and off during her life, but felt that if she was going to be serious she had better get started. She studied at UNM. I was puzzled about what I could teach her. She wanted to get beyond realistic painting. We got to know one another as she attended my small classes. One day said she thought it would be fun it we tried painting a picture together. It was fun. It was a hoot. You can see a few of those efforts on my blog. Things started moving when we switched to drawing because it was simpler, more direct. Many of those images are also on my blog. We had an exhibit of about twenty drawings at Art is OK Gallery here in Albuquerque, now closed. We sold four drawings, three to other artists and one to the gallery owner. We felt flattered that the purchasers were all art folks.
We've been getting together once a week for about two years. The drawings I just posted here and on my blog are the latest. That should bring us to about 140 drawings.
Collaboration in other art forms - music, dance, theater - is the rule and not the exception. Writers and visual artists are the loners. The question arises: does the absence of the opportunity to collaborate negatively affect the output of visual artists? I think it does. Visual artists I meet could rein in their egos a bit. Working creatively with others requires it.

That sounds good. For clarity, Cathy is my wife, and she makes jewelry. Edna Casman is an artist friend, and she and I make the drawings.

Meredith, I assume you are at UNM. Next Thursday, September 18, Edna and I will be spending the day jointly drawing together at her studio from 9:30am to about 3:30pm. Her studio is at 130 Quincy St. NE. You're welcome to drop by if the spirit moves you.

hi there. well toronto...........

hmmm in short i think toronto is the most deceptive city on earth. beautiful, but the energy.... there aer no words to describe the level of my dislike. have not seen it in years and yet ironically i made some of the best pieces there. i have a theory that the city itself hates me.

ottowa....... beautiful. now im really living the quiet life in the south of england. small towns. my best work now is reflective. thought. not so automatic. i think automatic art leads to smoking, destruction. big cities. so i come up to this site and i reflect.

look forward to see your stuff, luke :)
