Your paintings, particularly the sense of space in them, are very good.

I liked my GARDEN too! Mostly for the same reasons as you - so thanks for the compliments. How right you are! I think when something is TOO perfect it turns in on itself? That's what I was aiming for, anyway. I'm glad you like the New York images. There's a story there and I'm fats running out of narrative but not sure how to end it. Hope you are well. Enjoyed your "wide open spaces".

Thanks Ian - its odd working with someone else's source material. Feels like theft and I am no stranger to appropriation.
This is a really strong image you've made. There are two painters on this site that I could happily kill with envy - you and Richard Meaghan who ironically commented on the image just before me. Oh and that Droesler chap too...........
Great work.
PS Surely you mean "Untitled" not "Utitled" ?

Glad you liked that. It's an old tale and grows more weary in retelling and touched on here....Feel free to delete. Let me know if we can meet for that pint in Scotland.

Hi E

I think the work is going from strength to strength. Really do like the new paintings and drawings. The dissolving figure and projector are really good and its good to see you are opening out the composition into somewhere that is less obviously portraiture. It be good to see where its heading.
Hope we can meet up soon and have a chat. Im pretty clear for a couple of months now so give us a call when you fancy popping the studio

Ian, great portfolio. It looks like you're doing fine moving from portraits to narrative. You may be interested in the Figurative Art Group.

Hi Ian, thanks for taking the time to have a look at my work.I respect & value the opinions of my fellow artists.I must tell you that I think your work is amazing! To answer your question on my working process I'd say that before I begin the work the imagery has already been planned with almost military precision. It can start as either a mental image of a composition involving the idea's theme or maybe a possible title that requires me to conjure up something visual to accompany it.Or,as is usually the case,I will have something particular in mind that has inspired me,so I will then begin sketching like crazy until I am satisfied with composition & colours.I will then create, but although I'm pretty obsessive where the imagery is concerned & how I want it to end up looking I'm not averse to being spontaneous or improvising if I feel it will enhance. But even then, those moments can still be quite restrained I guess & the results only subtle. The media I'll use can be varied & I will take some time to think about which media(s) will be suited to each & every aspect of the piece. As this is such a vital part of the process I must be sure that I will be combining the different media in the best way possible & that their separate natures will come together to express what it is that I'm attempting to say.Again,thank-you for taking a look at my work examples & being so kind. Please let me know when you add fresh work to your page.I look forward to seeing it.All the best!
