Six days left and counting. Have already begun packing and clearing the debris that I scattered. Completed the final sketch for the new group of four works on paper, this one is ten feet long, size, scale. This immense studio allowed me to get outside of myself, this city let me out of my world, and now I begin to mentally prepare for my return. I am exhausted, pushing myself harder in these two months, must take full advantage of this space and the support. I'll need to turn in my key, lock th… Continue

Went to the Art Cinema, saw The Fall, brought to mind some personal memories, feeling out of sorts, went with John, he was very good company, but they all come and then go, and I am left wanting more, wanting something that I don't have, here comes the train again. The tracks run right down the middle of this street, not very many cars on it and it does not pass that often, but when I hear the whistle blowing I want to run out and watch as it goes by. Am I waiting for something, doesn't it's pas… Continue

There is some sort of monsoon weather pattern that has enveloped this area, from what I understand it's not typical. Rather chilly and rainy, very gray and damp. I packed according to the weather statistics and let's just say that I was not at all prepared for the change. Had an absolutely fabulous weekend, worked out a new sketch that has been simmering for years now, the work on paper, took it to a whole new level and I love it. The effort left me exhausted Saturday night but this space, this… Continue

I am reading a great book A Whole New Mind by D Pink.
"Lawyers. Accountants. Radiologists. Software engineers. That's what our parents encouraged us to become when we grew up. But Mom and Dad were wrong. The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind. The era of "left brain" dominance, and the Information Age that it engendered, are giving way to a new world in which "right brain" qualities-inventiveness, empathy, meaning-predominate. That's the argument at the center of this provocative and original book, which uses the two sides of our brains as a metaphor for understanding the contours of our times.
In this provocative and entertaining book, Daniel H. Pink offers a fresh look at what it takes to excel. A Whole New Mind reveals the six essential aptitudes on which professional success and personal fulfillment now depend, and includes a series of hands-on exercises culled from experts around the world to help readers sharpen the necessary abilities. This book will change not only how we see the world but how we experience it as well."
Just checking in - I was wondering (whilst painting in my studio - not listening to Led Zep: it's been House music today) how you might be getting on outside of New York City - I was kind of intrigued. Looks good so far. How far have you travelled? Must be quite a distance. That's more a geographic question, than existential.
Thanks for posting the blogs - now we can see. Catch up with you soon, eh?
Cheers, Mik
