Just saw a wonderful exhibition last month at the V&A on:
China Design Now, explored the recent explosion of new design in China.

About China opening up to global influences, and looked at developments in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen on architecture, fashion, youth culture and graphics as well as film, photography, product and furniture design and digital media. The exhibition is finished now, but you may be interested to get the book. I just read that you are located in Cambridge! Did you come to London to see the exhibition then?

Usually I am based in Guangzhou but at the moment i've been working on an exhibition about Dubai called Dubai Next - opened at Vitra musuem during Art Basel and now moving on to New York. Dubai is an interesting city after Shenzhen - many similarities in terms of the speed in which both cities where build (cities from Zero as Shumon Basar calls them). What are you working on at the moment? Were you in Beijing for the Olympic opening? I was so sad to miss it, looked so genuinely exciting. Best Charlie

Yes, the 501 art space is still alive, it include two areas, about 60 artists in the space, including painting, sculpture, video, installation, performance. There is a very famours art institute in Chongqing--Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, so many great artists of contemporary chinese art has graduated from this school. Maybe you can come here for further reaserching.
