Draw aside summer's sweltering curtain and get refreshed by sublime works from Cerasoli Gallery's selected artists. A thoughtful and imaginative undercurrent runs through 'Splash: Summer Gallery Selections 2008,' curated by Cerasoli Gallery director Freddi Cerasoli. The exhibit features contemporary work in varied media by over twenty diverse, talented, emerging and established artists. The works on view in 'Splash' inspire and surprise while exploring a spectrum of ideas with a summer theme.

Under the blazing sunburst of Lena Wolff's collage work, we are reminded that summer is upon us once again. Artworks by Jennifer Davis and Christopher Reiger, transport us to vivid, mirage-like paradises full of burgeoning wildlife and exotic beings. Matt Hansel's exploration of The Great Frontier is punched up with unearthly rainbow variations, while color forms burst forth, overpowering the stagnant black and white amoeba figures in the work of David O'Brien. Doused in the saturated tones of a heat wave, Josh Peter's painting depicts a summer scene of a convertible car cruising, unwittingly, beneath the crimson shadow of the Zodiac murders. Even the starkest of landscapes are given a punch of color as a TV antenna sails amid perfect summer skies in Jill Simonsen's painting, and in the work of Ryan Kapp, a glorious, golden sunset peeks out from behind a dull suburban house. The artists exhibited in 'Spalsh' seek to create new, sublime images awash with the vibrant splendor of summer even as they struggle over ideas about the nature of beauty and reach beyond outmoded, acceptable forms of expression.
