About my artwork
Peter Schenk’s balanced art on old- and new materials His artistic process renews constantly, influenced by the atmosphere and elements of the various countries he frequently visits. Schenk is a driven artist who loves to work with various materials. Continuously he adds new elements, like ropes, jute, palm tree leaves, bamboo and even pieces of oxidized copper to his art works to enrich and renew his image language. The last year his works became more still and monumental All the time Peter Schenk tries to find a new and delicate balance by searching for a new synthesis of matter and spirit.

The visual language of Peter Schenk The artist Peter Schenk (1944) has a vast body of work that is distinct as well as voluminous. His art is made up of large shapes mixed with lively elements, which he himself characterises as being ‘dynamic and monumental’. Spatial, basal, energetic and sensual are keywords. He starts out with spatial three-dimensional patterns, adding dynamic movement of paint and texture later on. During this process he releases a raw pure energie, a genuine wave of emotion, right onto his canvas. His work is layered, spiritual and poetic. It unlocks emotions by its powerfull colour on the one hand and soft, monochrome warm whites on the other hand. His many journeys to, for instance, Nepal, Sri lanka and Bonaire, where a great inspiriation for him. In Japan he was thaught the art of creating handmade-paper. He preferes using natural materials like rice-paper, Nepal-paper, jute, cane, palmtree leaves, mulberry fibers and cactuswood. This creates a physical experience for the viewer since we are literally challengend to touch this piece of art. His work reflects different themes like Natural White, Haiku, Free Spirit and Oyster. In this the viewer recognizes his feelings. For example, the Q in his work means Quest, an expedition, a journey. Wandering throught the landscape of his personal space he takes us upon an adventure of love, optimism, freedom and natural sensuality. He pulls us into his world and the chance is big that we never want to get out.

We've been fascinated by your refined and powerful abstract art research where forms, gestuality and colors create such intense and metrical results like in 'Bonaire IV', 'De verbintenis' and 'Golden Drips'. Your works reveal the power and brightness of colors, through the different effects of forms, the textures, the pictorial matter, and the magnetic energy from the pictorial sign, which spring, from the canvas.

Your language is confirmed as a real language (=unlimited), winning in maturity and reaching new and further expression posibilities. It seems that you play with it as a poet plays with the words to promote and comunicate new sensations and emotions. I always loved it and every time I come back to it I love it more and more. I wonder that If they look so astonishing in the computer screen, how should it be to stand in front of them? José María López Orozco / Spain
