About my artwork
The social contexts in which architecture and art interact are the main focus of this work. My work ‘Cubed’ (Austrian Marks of Memory) is concerned with a form of memory, order of things and the sociological implications of arranging things, in ones workplace or home. The cube helps to house the issues and material that I am interested in and represents the architectural side of my work. It references Jan Malevich and his cube/square, Gregor Schneider and his black cube, Donald Judd and his metal cubes and many other artists that use this form to help create their art. It also has other connotations as in the White Cube Gallery, London and Willie Doherty’s book on the white cube.
Inside my cube I have created an ‘environment’ the idea coming from Loredana Raciti’s ‘The Artist’s Room’ (La Biennale di Venezia 2008) and I reference other artists, Dexter Delwood for his created spaces, Mike Nelson for his rooms and environments and Gregor Schneider once again for his rooms he recreated within his home (Haus Ur 1985).
I began this project last year and focused on marks made by four generations of a family and marks made by nature and the elements on the inside of a barn in southern Austria. The Barn is not important in this work except that it houses the marks. The farm implements represent the position of the mark making and suggest the reasons that these spaces were used. The first of the generational marks made a hundred years ago involved putting the horses tackle high up out of reach as the mechanical tractors took over and this equipment was not needed. These items were carefully arranged in perfect order to add to the aesthetic of the building unlike the bird excrement that randomly built up on the walls over this long period. These ‘environments’ that I have created, contained in a 8ft cube, involve abstraction, pearing down the information and creating a space that you can immerse yourself in.
Artists I like
Mike Nelson, Loredana Raciti, David Hokney, Gregor Schneider, Martin Kippenberger, Donal Judd, Dexter Delwood.

Hi Beppe
Thanks for the invitation but I am just finished my BA in Visual Art Practice and I will continue my study at MA level in January 2009. So I will not have time to partisipate in any venture at the moment. But I will keep an eye on your work and group Puraismo.
