does art have the intrinsic power to heal us? or rather...are all artists bad before they become artists?

Mike, I am not sure Descartes thought his sentence, "I think therefore I am," was transitive, but I'll stop discussing philosophical questions with you since you apparently felt offended. As for wh...

About my artwork
I am intrigued by identity, translation, transition, and in-between states, conceptually and visually, working to integrate my conceptual and visual approaches to allow each room, and constraint, to resonate against the other. Grounded in drawing, the work moves drawing conventions off the page and into physical and virtual spaces, navigating cycles of life, death and renewal in process and in narrative.

Bound or Unbound

I started to think tonight about what an artist feels bound by/to in creating work, what constraints an artist feels free to break, where an artist draws (intentionally or unintentionally) the line between the two, favoring bound or favoring constrained, and how that sensibility impacts the artist's work. Artists can be constrained by material, technique, formal composition, conceptual underpinning, presentation context, media form and/or conventions, habitual aesthetics, etc., to varying degre… Continue

Some questions I've been asking myself lately ...

Meaning doesn’t have to depend on emerging from process – but I find I like the process to facilitate, underscore or otherwise impact meaning. Has anyone not played with Photoshop . . . multiplied an image or piece of an image over and over into a pattern or faceted constellation? Pumped up saturation until highlights and shadows are a day-glo facsimile of original image? Joined two images to make one image or dyptich? There’s a lot of this now. Is it still possible for the images created this w… Continue

Your first and third piece from Assimilation struck me as very strong. They had great esthetic form, and the human comtent was not blatant, but could be read on many levels. Good stuff!

Hi Deirdre, thank you very much for your comment, I am hoping to find a Gold centre so to speak, the subject matter is the same just the interpretation is different, perhaps more readily understood. I find your new ideas very inspiring and the subject of Assimilation in general, best wishes, Ekaterina
