- a painter living and working in London. I am in the process of setting up a canvas making business, as well as moving into a live/work space in East London.
- About my artwork
- My current interests as a painter have stemmed from my interest with dress, and recently how dress may be removed from the body, therefore setting up an uncanny sensibility around it. I have been working on the idea of museums, and using the mannequin within the museum interior to give a sense of the removal of the living person. Recently my interests have been diverted purely into the architectural qualities of the spaces that I have been observing and painting, removing the presence of the figure. The work comes out of an inquiry into building up spaces via geometric shapes, of creating an anxiety and tension through the obscurity of the images. I am using fragmentation as a way of disturbing a straightforward reading of perspectival space. Through the making of the ‘jigsaw’ paintings, I have started to bring about a dialogue between painting and objects. I use flat planes of colour as a means of reducing the amount of information I give to the viewer, as well as a means of disrupting realistic space via the physical qualities of the paint.
The work has always had a strong sense of the surreal about it. I use surreal qualities as a means of exploiting the possibilities of the medium I am working with, as well as a means of transcribing what is important to the work. Drawing plays a key role within my practice. I use it as a way of recording and understanding real spaces, but also manipulate the medium in order to alter and play with composition and space.
As well as many other subtexts and concerns, the concepts of presence and absence seem to be key themes that run throughout my practice, in both a conceptual and a physical manner.
I see my work as a dynamic, evolving practice, one in which colour, shape, composition or mood may lead the way to the next piece of work.

- Aside from making and exhibiting work, I have a passion for building and transforming spaces. I am currently looking for an Art Technician job, either within a gallery or museum, or working directly for an artist. I'm currently in the process of becoming a sole trader by setting up a canvas making business, details of which shall be on my website shortly.
