- About my artwork
- In my works I am making a research into the conscious about changing environment and perception using “new media”. It is known that, in the early stage of historical avant-garde, this cognition urged Cubists and Dadaists to include segments of that worthy new world in their “pictorial field”: newspapers, photographs, and then “movies”, etc. That is how «from the beginning» and at the back of new media are mixed and broken up, « re-established» into old media, while older is building bridges, different crossings and short-cuts between idiom of the painting and newly risen circumstances. That is how I come to different symbols which I, sometimes completely intuitively compose into the concept of new meaning, often ironical when it comes to contemporary methods of producing desires in today’s man. I am interested in psychology and sociology, transition of symbol into the symptom. I find my inspiration in different magazines for women, teenagers and businessmen... Search and turning over the pages of these magazines (how to preserve health, fitness and dream shopping, seducing in three steps and similar) became a kind of obsession to me. I am using photos from magazines which belong to the sphere of precise and calculated marketing and fashion design. I am trying to reveal a way of using art and fashion as means to impose certain meanings, by tearing and re-composing, I am giving back the meaning to “other side”, I get back to the “what is behind”. Here, I stumble upon the unconscious, lyrical, exciting, but again «campy», ironically weird. My inspiration is also Dada, Surrealism, Pop, Collages, Mixed media as well as Transitional capitalism, schizophrenia (tearing-cutting, the gap between desires and possibilities). Through the magazines, I observe the society of spectacle and I compare it with the society in which I find myself and live in. Comparing every day’s comic as well as tragic sensational news, and at the same time looking at «the world from popular magazines» I come to the fact that there isn’t a wicked reality which is not in advance (a priori) split, thrown and happily intervened with media («mediated») and attractively placed as «good» in a marketing manner as well as that turbulent, hyperactive, hyper productive «Kitsch» or Trash!
By playing with the visual material and possible/impossible «meanings», the multi-layered composition is folded from extreme absurd elements which I absorb from the visual surrounding. The method of tearing and re-composing of the picture-message (anecdote) gives me a seductive, surprised possibility of discovery, imagination, to distinguish different fantasies which produce insane «craving machines» in the heads of the attracted observers ( drawn in a contemporary game which shows the picture in the function of creating the desire-craving).
The anecdote, which I look for, and that is shown through picture, is close to the atmosphere of fantastic horror or weird drama and mainly inspired by domination of great number of pictures. In that way I am trying to build an event of strong contrast between trickery and deliberation against stupidity, clumsiness and confusion. The smooth, carefully designed and demonstrative structure of fashion photography or poster is exchanged with a torn, glued and by itself displaced interpretation.
The advertising world today possesses a strong illusion which overpowers everyday reality.
The art enables a position to be a tailor of your own story inside imposed criteria of value. The aim, which is longed for, is not the changing of the world, but its acceptance and re-creation.
It is known that the post-modern methodology makes a summary of the characteristic factors: verbosity, fantasy, mythology, «primitive» associated with the popular and the urban.
