You asked about my anti-recruiting flyer for art colleges. I've found a copy:

WHY STUDY FINE ART?

For thousands worldwide a course in Fine Art has led to years and decades of:

abject and addictictive failure!

Don't let a degree in Fine art turn you into just another

ART SLAVE

working for nothing in the vain and fantastic hope of penetrating the artworld

- Greedy Universities don't care how many Fine Artists they chuck out or what happens to them

- Fine Art tutors are at best artists in the eyes of their students. They pass off their own life wasting fantasies of value and achievement as art education.

- 'Artists' are the dogbodies of the artworld. They have a few ideas, make a few props, present a bit of personality - otherwise their 'success' or 'failure ' is an artifact of the system.

INSTEAD OF ONE GLOBALISED ARTWORLD

WE COULD JUST HAVE ART EVERYWHERE!

Rob Van Beek cc. Art Slaves International

I should add that at the time I was not trying to be 'fair' or 'reasonable' but sound aggravated and lobby against the the art education industry!

That is quite the nicest thing anyone has said to me in a long time. I’m delighted that you think my statement works so well. Thank you. Most art statements are lifted straight from books piecemeal. It becomes a game of spot the source. I think one must use other people’s ideas but always quote them. Mesh them together into a net that captures what your work is about. Make your statement your own and about YOUR work. What you do and why you do it. Write it, refine it, condense it. Then do it again. Don’t make your statement until you are sure about why you are doing what you are doing.

The grass is always greener, trust me. So little in life is ever really resolved, why should it be so in our art? Thanks again and good luck!

Hi Janet
Thanks for your feedback on my work . As artists we become so familiar with seeing our work that after a certain time we dont see anymore. I like the process. Its is good to have other eyes to remind us of things in our work .

I guess I am pleased that the images have the air of being mysterious and slightly threetening.

Re Burren ,I came across it on the intenet a couple of nights ago, it looked tempting to a city girl looking for solace. Its good that you had a positive experience there inspite of the birthing problems of a new program. It;s our memories which are important antway. Look forward to seeing more of your work

Cheers
Yewande
