If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Conceptual, Painting, Photography
I am...
Idealistic, open-minded, creative, sensitive and passionate about life...
I am a russian born artist, living and working in the UK. I grew up in Leningrad (now St.-Petersburg), Russia, the city of rich cultural heritage, the city of Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Ahmatova, Kirov ballet, Malevich, Shostakovich...
About my artwork
My abstract paintings are inspired by Church mosaics, Kandinky's colour theory and the "Black square" by Kazimir Malevich, which he painted during Stalin's purges.

Like Kandinsky I believe that each colour has a certain spiritual meaning.
White and Black are transitional colours, colours of Birth/Death, Beginning/End
Blue is a peaceful colour, the colour of tranquility and purity
Red is a colour of energy, passion and pain...

The main subjects that interest me are Faith, Love and Freedom. Freedom in a broad sense (emotional, spiritual, political freedom etc) and it's self imposed and community imposed constraints.

In my artwork and titles I use a lot of symbolism. Windows, for example, are about being able to see beyond one's own environment, being able to see outside one's box, being able to connect with others and one's own spiritual self.

I am also exploring how adding/removing certain events from history can critically alter people's perceptions. The same effect can easily be achieved by an artist by removing/adding/rearranging one's artwork and titles. As a result the same artworks can produce a totally different story line. By making such "alterations" fiction can become reality and reality can become fiction. (I have personally experienced it back in the USSR, where whole chuncks of family/people's history had been deleted).
Artists I like
Francis Bacon, Kandinsky, Malevich, Rothko, Turner....
Interests
All forms of artistic expression, books, theatre, music, people
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Cold War Modern, Victoria and Albert museum, London
The centre of the artworld is
nowhere and everywhere

Art and Computers

In this age of Technological advances, communication has become so simple, one easily gets "connected" to pretty much any part of the world staying in the comfort of one's own home. Cables and telephone lines carry one along on a journey into the unknown mystreries of someone who happens to be on the other end of the line. Installing multiple internet security programmes, running updates and scans constantly accompanies this process of "opening up to the world" as one tries to safeguard private… Continue

Dear dear baby Ekaterina Blue.
let's begin....first question... you said.."full circle"...which side are you, in or out?.
If you take around a perfect circle, would happen a paradox...you'd see your own back.
Then we must assume you aren't ON the line..(in a 3 D world would be impossible.there are two possibilities more, you are in the circle, or out the circle. Let the second choice for later.
Is impossible too to be out the circle...why?...cause inside there, or just in the hole border there are all your remmants, all your memories, all your proof that you are a human being.
Out this tale circle there's nothing in a symbolic sense....there's no concept which can cover itself, is almost methalinguistic(if it had exist),
this outside is which is necessary as a devoid, reassure the inner existence.
yes......fantastic speech, but my dejá vu sensation, my bad mood, my enough existence? May be all the building must be drained, to go on the line, and go back to write it over and over again.
A huge embrace...(I hope understand my English)

Hello Ekaterina Alexander thanks for your comments and an interesting site to browse around. Some of my thoughts, ideas about cosmology come from a russian guy called Andrei Lynde he worked/s on externally existing self reproducing inflationary multiverses and produced pictures of his theories which were similar to Kandinsky's art work. take it easy ekaterina regards http://peterbarker.blogspot.com
