Maggie Mowbray’s work encompasses minimalist inscriptions of black and white fragile lines meeting with mass and landscape. The process of mark making is central to her practice, the energy bound in making the mark and in the spaces between, connecting hand, eye and mind in a non-verbal dialogue.
Her current work focus is that of our Coastline, organic growth and movement made solid by nature and our interaction. The continuous deterioration by the sea and wind, but which with every action creates new forms and life.
This process of creation and destruction is echoed in the making of her work. She uses mixed media; inks, pastels, graphite, charcoal, thread, wool, wire, silk, paper pulp and paper cuts, exploiting the distinct qualities of each medium. Images are torn and overlapped, collaged and recreated; the process is a determining factor in the marks made and in the final outcome. The drawings are mainly achromatic which allow the forms to relate with the surrounding paper. She rejects theories normally applied to drawing, in favour of a complete openness towards materials and processes.
Hi Maggie! Thank you very much for your comments! Indeed a little sinister as history reveals! I also enjoy a lot your work! is so pure and tectonical, keep me updated please!!

Yes i am well understand the word simple, in relation to art.
Simple as in abstracting taking away the detials and leaving only the essentials. or braking something down till its main structure. or shape, such as say in a cezanne, or a brancusi. , or even say that famous one by Rembrant, of the women bathinh her feet in water, I remember so much topic based just on the paint work of , i think the right arm. or colour. remains, or something remaining pure in thought and atitude
without care for isms. and its known often nieve painters prefers detials
such as adding in each eye lash with the stroke of a good sable brush
But yes, i use this matarial, because of its avialability, and i have no money, to spend on real art shop matariels such as oil paints, and thiers more dust and muck floating about in the air, than thier was in the golden days of oil paint. yes you can get cheap canves on stretchers, but it all looks a bit kitch the way the artshops present art goods these days, all in fancy contianers and rappers, i hate this kind of popularity
i think that the artist has to be like a nomad go the oposit direction of gimicks and fads. but yes, i use it as the same reason as you, but i have other things plaaned i hope for the futcher work. i do not like to be in a closet or pinned downd to i am this kind of artist
Its all a bit art school attitude. though i get the feeling things are changing, with the schools a bit ...yrs... R A
thanks for your statment, yes simple, thiers so much to look at in a simple line, you could spend hours drawing a line from a branch
that it might go unoticed in large compostions such as a battle seen.
or a contour of a mountian side, that is what i like about your work
fresh and pure, and something holding both your nature and the matarials,
and catching the elemants of the day for example perhaps some of the dirt got traped in to the paper you had been using, and the damp stians give you the feel of what type of wether you can feel it in thier.
Good greif, Scotland, Nether crossed my mind about showing in scotland!, i have never gone further than the town i live in, and perhaps a small bus journey away, well its all down to finance. But yes i will let you know iff and when i show work up in scotland. next year i should start thinking a bit further a field.... but its all... Finance...finance... finance. yrs... R A

Yes, this is very strong. I am attracted to your piece Shre 4 2008. I like the way you have put together the shapes andthe texures. The cutting of one texture forms the shape of the next texture. I also sense a very strong connectionwith the subconscious - with the outer physical - maybe the layer between the physical and the void?
