Canada stunts the arts

While I realize we are not so many here from Canada, I want to take the opportunity of people visiting this page to get the full sense of how dire the art scene has suddenly become here, thanks to a short sighted government who thinks the arts are simply a niche group and whose funding he has withdrawn. While as an art advisor, I come to the arts with a more commercial approach however, as we know, not all artists come into their own in their lifetime and part of this funding, along with bankrolling travelling exhibits outside of Canada, cuts at the core of their livelihood. Beauty lessens pain, jury still out on Munch

From an article in the Herald Tribune: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/10/02/travel/lifeschool.php?pass=true LONDON: The School of Life, which just opened here, is the sort of place that would welcome the news out of Bari, Italy, the other day. A certain Dr. Marina de Tommaso, leading a team of Italian colleagues, recently asked a dozen young men and women to choose 20 attractive pictures and 20 ugly ones from several hundred works of art. The volunteers stared at said images while being zapp… Continue

Spread thin

With all the different communities out there, I ended up with my art blog on LiveJournal rather than here... It says that Damien Hirst is making a mega media play for Paris Hilton with a very public purchase of her portrait by Yao. Of course, having already written about it, the bite is gone. Instead, let me say I've been working on a horse head named Horace. 35' of chicken wire, uncut but bound up nicely make up the base, and I'm revisiting the art of papier mâché. The first phase looks like t… Continue

Hi Loulou, thanks for the invitation. I spent a month in Alberta some years back, drove through the Rocky mountains and stayed in the Bannf springs hotel. I loved Canada. Some great imagery on your profile.

if you want me to speak about my pedigree your like Oscar Wilde who praised a woman with a past and a man with a future.I rather think i m the first. Aragon, Moorish, I know why your in Canada you are so warm you need a cold wheather country if you will burn everything. so the aragòn had some moorish blood, funny that the kings of Castilla and Aragòn chased the moors from Spain. What a shame Moorish spain was my fav period in history(well also the Precolombian americas).too much bla bla for today hope ur well hear you soon
