a ceramic sculptor, or a sculptural ceramicist. I create large and small scale sculpture using porcelain, glazes, stains, wax, sinew, steel, and wood. I also create jewelry using porcelain, glazes, stains, copper, silver, and leather. I'm interested in all mediums of artistic expression such as watercolour, oil painting, and photography.
About my artwork
A primal being exists within all humans connecting them to the past. My work includes subjects of past lives, remembrance, forgotten animal instincts, renewal of the self, and the life-death-rebirth cycle. I work from instinct, letting images of my subconscious bleed through. These images create a symbolic language consisting of anatomy, nature, and the self. I intertwine ideas such as humans as animals, nature, and the primordial self. I choose to work with porcelain clay because I enjoy the unpredictable stress fractures, temperamental change in the forms, and the similar appearance to bone. My work reaches to the core of my own existence and connects with an over-all existence through time. I embrace the idea of being connected to everyone and everything, large and small; respecting life and death, and the energy created within both.
