I am...

About my artwork
I basically have no idea of what I am going to paint when I begin. Those many times when I was certain at the beginning..... of the ending, the works turned out to be horrid and the process bored me to tears. In keeping the meaning ahead of my process what happens instead is that I have to catch up with the work eventually to get the meaning.... this happens continually throughout the life of the work, and titles will come along with an understanding of why I was making those marks. My hope is that this also happens with the viewer and when the work is at it's best, a culturally sustainable message of actualization is the result.
Artists I like
Joan Mitchell, non-figurative deKooning, non-drip Pollack, Jasper Johns, Pablo, Juan Gris, Kandinsky, Elizabeth Murray, Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Tapies, Kurt Schwitters, Oscar Schlemmer, and these are just a few off the cuff. The Spanish painters, Coton, Zubaran, oh just too many to name, I love painting. The California School of Abstraction out of San Francisco late 50's early 60's is what initially inspired me.
Interests
I mean really what a question....everything from Chess to Politics all of the arts, labor issues, human beings and what they make, how they feel, what they inspire and all the animals and plants that support them, and the music that makes them dance, weep, and soar.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Hopper, Winslow Homer, AIC. Chicago Illinois
The centre of the artworld is
nowhere and everywhere

Thanks Ted - feelings are mutual. you are - and I mean this as a compliment and in the best possible way - a "brick"! A rock, a certainty, a solid and reliable entity. Thanks for that.

It's nice to see oils used this way. Some of your work looks as though watercolor or ink were incorporated...very interesting. I can relate with your process. Most of my work is entirely unplanned. It always feels best that way.

Hey thanks for passing the nada motel show along. http://www.artreview.com/groups/nadamotel
There's an artist from Chicago, Sasha sumthin', she's talking about coming out to Reno for it. We'll see, we've filled like 30 rooms with artists so far. And nice work, I like that you stick to B/W.

Hey Ted. The art world brings us together yet again, albeit virtually this time. It was lovely meeting you in Chicago during Artropolis. I'm really glad I got a chance to see your work in person because photos simply do not do it justice. Great work!

Talk soon,

Rui~
