Fundamentally, I am an abstract artist mainly concerned with mixed media painting on canvas but also employing other mediums (photography, printing, latex ‘traces’, sculpture, installation) preferring not to artistically restrict myself. The medium is very much dependant on the subject matter of the moment.

Various tools are utilised to obtain weighty, almost sculptural textures. Squeegees, paint scrapers, plastic coasters and spoons have been used to distribute paint and additives, usually mixed on the actual canvas, implementing an elemental energy which would not be achievable with the cliché paintbrush. In order to increase the textural quality additional materials and found objects have been deployed including: coffee grains, wall filler, varnish, soil, stones, fabrics, latex and plant matter.

All of my work is an experiment: research into the reaction of one 'ingredient' with another. Each work is possibly never completed: when passed on to the next 'keeper' each painting comes with a verbal warning that it may still deteriorate and pieces come away.

My influences are deteriation and decay: predominantly industrial or abandonned buildings and ruins. I attempt to create memorials to the aforementioned, maybe utilising a latex 'trace' of a building or site to be included in a work of art. Add some colour and texture and what emerges is an eerie reminder, a memory, a monument.
