If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Digital, Photography
I am...
interested in just about everything if it's new, or, in a pinch, new to me.
About my artwork
Words are usually an important organizing feature of my work. In other words, I like to find the wrong way to do something, then make it work.
Artists I like
Ed Ruscha
Tom Sachs
William Lamson
Giambattista Tiepolo
Rembrandt
Penelope Umbrico
Andreas Gursky
Thomas Demand
Jeff Wall
Susan E. Evans
Lisa Ann Aurbach
Ariel Orozco (and I like Gabriel Orozco, too)
Peter Urban
William Sullivan
Walker Evans
And too many more artists, writers, filmmakers, etc., to list.
Interests
Photography, systems, wit, humor, truth.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Recenty in NYC I saw work I liked by David Clarebout, Marcel Dzama, and James Welling, all of which I liked enough to remember. The Whitney Biennial? I liked it, but only insofar as it was "interesting," I think. I liked the paintings of terrorist group names by Daniel Martinez, but only as far as I was able to resist them as a serious political statement.
The centre of the artworld is
New York, London, LA, Berlin, Beijing, my studio, online, nowhere and everywhere, another city

Hi Pelle,

there are some exiting news from Warsaw, Capital of Poland; let's see what artists are doing there:

and also check directly on Marzena's website: http://www.turekgas.com/ - her skate-painting actions are already famous! a lot of fun

Hi Pelle, thanks for reading, and for your comments. As you will have read, I found it similarly difficult to work out any clear rationale about these issues. Having said that, I wouldn't go quite so far as to say that you give up your right to privacy when you step out on the street, but I guess that's an issue of terminology and degree as much as anything.

Put it this way - away from photography - if you're reading in public then people are entitled to see which book you're reading, but I'd suggest that standing over your shoulder reading each line is a step too far. That may be a weak analogy, but while privacy in public is clearly not the same as in a private space, I think it does still exist in some form.

Thanks for engaging - much appreciated. Umlaut.

p.s. If you ever have a spare five minutes, it would be great if you could add some of the names of Evan's successors to my blog post. I certainly don't have the knowledge of photography you do and it would be great to do the subject justice.
