I was born in 1967, working in installations, interactive installations, video, photography, painting, performance, living and working in Krakow, Poland.

About my artwork

My biggest inspiration was art of a Neo-Dada.
One of my first installations "Game", exhibited in 1996 in Krakow, in 1997 in Berlin and in 1999 in Frankfurt was made in the tradition of machines and games of the Dadaists.
My billboard "Jesteśmy okropne" (We are awful) was made under an undoubted influence of the American pop art.
My video Into the City was bought by National Collection of Contemporary Art for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow as an example of top polish video art of the 90ties. This video was made in the tradition of existentialism and surrealism which movement inspired me to use dream analysis.

Biography

In 1987-91 I have studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland where I have obtained a master's degree in painting.

1994 video Into the City was exhibited in Parochialkirche in Berlin - the exhibition "+raum"

'VIP' (Video-Instalacje-Performance), Museum of Art in Lodz, National Museum in Poznan.

1996 Interactive installation "Game" was exhibited in Zderzak Gallery in Krakow.

1999 Billboard 'We are awful' was exhibited on 400 billboards in 19 cities in Poland as a part of "Art in the City" project by AMS Outdoor Gallery in Poznan.

2000 'Game' - interactive computer installation - "Zderzak Gallery: Young Art from Cracow", Museum Junge Kunst, Frankfurt (Oder), Germany.

2001 'We are awful' - billboard - "Woman about woman", BWA, Bielsko-Biala.

2003 Billboard of the AMS Outdoor Gallery exhibited in the Zacheta National Gallery in Warsaw (exhibition 'Art in the City', AMS Outdoor Gallery 1998-2002)

2005 video "Into The City" exhibited in the Centre for Contemporary
Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw (exhibition 'POLKA')

2005 video 'Into the City' was bought by the National Collection of Contemporary Art

2006 video 'Into The City' was exhibited in Cell Project Space in London (exhibition 'You Can't Come Closer') and Festival Directors Lounge, Berlin 2007

2007 video 'Into The City' was exhibited in the Centre of Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw (the exhibition 'Hidden Decade')


Reactions to my work

"In January 1999 on 400 billboards in 19 cities of Poland we have been exhibiting Anna's project "jesteśmy okropne".
Art work of artist from Krakov was different from those presented earlier in Outdoor Gallery, the reactions of mass media and passers-by were also different. This project, using esthetic and language of ordinary advertisement shows the difference in social situation of men and women".

"In 1994 Anna made a performance in Krakow and she made a video of this performance which is documentation named "Into the City". Camera is recording the reactions of the passers-by from cool to aggression. This film is not easy to watch. It's deeply existential, and it has a great potential of transgression in the most pure form."

"Into The City was exhibited near the entrance to the postindustrial gallery Cell Project Space. That a bit forgotten video is a documentation of performance made in 1994 in Krakow. The crawling woman made passers-by feeling edgy emotions - ordinary interest, empathy and aggression, artist was even symbolically taken out of the streets of Krakow (like in performance of Katarzyna Kozyra made in 2006 at the entrance to Frieze)"
