If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Conceptual, Drawing, Painting
I am...
I was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After college and art school in Chicago. I went to Skowhegan, after which, I moved to Brooklyn where I currently juggle making art, freelancing in fashion, practicing yoga, and seek the spiciest foods possible.
About my artwork
For the past several years I’ve been making paintings and painting installations derived from found photographs. I work with collections of photographs that document a specific family or group of friends. In my paintings of oil on wood I attempt to rediscover and resurrect the people in these forgotten photos. My paintings zoom in on the photo’s details recording the subtleties --the touch of hands, a loving gaze.
Artists I like
Dana Schutz, Ann Hamilton, Frank Auerbach, Vermeer, Frances Bacon,
Michel Gondry, Mike Leigh, Jenny Saville, Rosemarie Trockel, Goya, Manet,
Kahlo, Rothko
Interests
Yoga, meditation, flea markets, sample sales, art openings, trading music with friends, hanging out at fairway.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
I do not recommend the Whitney Biennial. Very dry and spare. There were hardly any paintings. Go to the freshly reinstalled 19th century rooms at the Met.
Thanks Diana, your work is very cool. I just ended a show in Brooklyn which is moving to NYC. The opening is April 3rd at 6:30 (45W21st) Be great if you can make it. best, Antonio
