If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Drawing, Painting
I am...
a painter currently based out of Washington DC. I have not shown my work very much and now starting to put my work out there and look for opportunities to show my work. I've moved around my whole life, mostly in the US, and I've picked up a lot of rich culture through dialogs with fascinating and unique people.
About my artwork
I cover so much in my paintings, both thematically and technically, that if there was a central theme it would be perception of life and identity. I like the idea of the tradition of painting as a platform to a universe of possibilities- canvas and paints and what can I do with that- what are the different approaches and end points that I can find to tell a story, express a thought or feeling. All the styles and modes of expression that have been created in history of art are at my disposal and I can use them to create my own language- style becomes a part just another aspect of language and not a means to it's own end.

The act of expression is so momentary that to box it in definitions would be like trying to capture the wind, or living in memory of the past. Why measure anything by the medium or fashion we choose for one particular moment when the results of living aren't measured by history and past aesthetics- they are measured by clarity and fruitful results. If something expands my vocabulary then it suites a purpose but if it is just something new to look at then it is nothing more than a distraction to the poetry of living.

What comes to mind everyday is different. Who I am everyday is evolved from who I was the day before. Mankind is a part of nature, and there is no amount of educated reasoning that can tame the spirit of life. Sometimes we forget that everything that comes to us actually comes to us, and how can we be available to that type of inspiration if claiming ownership and control over its origins?

Each painting is an interaction with ideas and my perception of them. I've had experiences, thoughts and feelings profound to my life that I can never entirely touch upon in expression to someone else; but that is part of living- a connected yet singular experience where we search and hunger for truth and love.

When I paint I feel an inner dialog with a higher principle than myself; I do not have to break down the experience to limited logic or reasoning- I don’t have to do anything but look and accept. The ideas reveal themselves like alien planets hiding behind new suns. It isn't attempting to shock or be modern- it's naturally creative and fresh but feels familiar, yet oddly so. Like returning home to a place idealized but forgot actually existed.
Artists I like
Peter Paul Rubens, Philip Guston, Georg Baselitz, Neo Rauch, Otto Dix, Max Beckman, Gerhard Ritcher, Henri Rousseau, Christian Schad, Daniel Ritcher, David Hockney, Lucian Freud, Alberto Giacometti, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Joan Mitchell.
The centre of the artworld is
