"Kenna Shapiro uses abstract forms to articulate the human experience when words do not suffice. To Shapiro, the sensuality of the medium is just as important as the image itself. This tactual craving inspires innovative techniques to integrate texture, sheen, and spatial balance into every artwork. To reduce environmental impact, most works are created with reused or salvaged materials. Shapiro’s vivid temporal landscapes are an affirmation of life, an expression of unadulterated emotion defined on our own terms, and an acknowledgment that only in art are we able to find complete resolution.
Shapiro received her bachelor’s degree in art with a concentration in art history, but her inspiration comes from her travels to over a dozen nations across the globe which taught her that art is a universal language. Shapiro works every day in her San Francisco studio and enjoys working collaboratively with other artists. Her work has been featured on PBS television twice and exhibited in the Bay Area and New York. Much of her past work resides in private collections throughout the United States."
I think "Altar for Zapotec Ancestors" is an inspirational idea. Our ancestors and memories of them should be a treasure everywhere - an essential part of the cultural diversity that leads to creativity. Instead, they are often forgotten and we struggle on the slippery downhill path to a world devoid of memory
