I am...
Juno Doran, visual artist, Portuguese born, UK based since 1992. Lived and worked in London for many years, then last year decided to move away to a mild form of isolation in the Forest of Bowland, North Lancashire, where I'm surrounded by fields of philosophical sheep, pheasants and many other strange feathered creatures. I love it here but my creative dynamic still draws completely from my urban experience.
About my artwork
The work is essentially narrative, deriving mostly from personal experience, and historical and literary references; the process is strongly influenced by the nature of the snapshot photograph as a basis for constructed painterly scenes. It progresses through several stages; some of the images are created in the studio, others are obtained from outside sources, going through a radical adjustment using digital software until the resulting images are finally interpreted on canvas.

I'm currently working on two different projects. “Memory Paintings“, started in 2006, a painterly interpretation of old family photographs, taken previous to the end of the Portuguese dictatorship in 1974, and an exercise in ideas of social identity in a changing Europe.

The second project is titled “you only live when you bleed“. Started in 2007, it derives from a personal exploration of the deeper and darker feelings in the human condition and has been inspired by my own recent personal experiences.

HI Juno,
we 'knew' each other a while back when I was curating shows at 'here gallery'- I think we emailed each other a few times. Good to see your work again.

Hello Juno,
I've seen some of these drawings before somewhere - have they been in a magazine?
