If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Conceptual, Installation
I am...
Kudlicka's focus lies in the arena of installations, working in the context of existing space. Kudlicka is interested in the economy of scale that create paradoxes. Her projects also feature text, which describes ephemeral moments that fail to stay in our memory as a definable image. She tries to catch this uncontrollable moment and freeze it in a visual sentence to create a hypnotic effect of stopped motion.
Kudlicka's solo shows include: 'Architectural trip', ISCP NYC 2007; NN, Institute in Glasspavilion, Berlin 2007 ; 'The Image That Emits No Shadow /SUNSET/', Location One, New York 2005; 'POINT OF VIEW', Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany 2004.
She has also participated in several group shows: 'SIX', CASYC, Santander, Spain 2008 ; 'Visual Immortality' Biennial Bulgaria 2006, White Box Gallery, New York 2006, 'Basis & Igel' Projectroom for Museumsnight, Berlin 2006, 'In expectation of', Akademie Schloss Solitude, Germany 2005.
Kudlicka has participated in residency programs at ISCP, NYC 2007/08 ; Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart 2003/04/05; Location One, NYC 2004/05; Art Omi NY 2003.
She has received several grants from the Ministry of Culture in Poland Jurzykowski Foundation and Trust for Mutual Understanding.
About my artwork
It is challenging to work for a specific location discovering its own notion. The conditions that are included in a given space become an inspiration to build a specific body of work just and only for this space. Looking at its history, and referring to that through my own prism, the work in this space will gain a new character and open another meaning while it will become an integral part of the given location.
Like in my previous site specific installations the main approach was to reexamine a given space with its economy of scale. By paying attention to spatial conditions, it allows me to understand the character of space, and at the same time, these conditions are tools to utilize the space and to open its new dimensions.
