Grand Matter is group show of contemporary mid-career artists who are exploring objects and experimenting with their form and arrangement. Sixteenth Century Dutch Still Life directly influences some artists while others play more upon the metaphors and symbolism that surround objects relevant to the present and future. All RiSE Gallery president, Lisa Flores ,curates Grand Matter.

Parisian photographer Joachim Lapotre (www.joachimlapotre.com) contemporizes still life both philosophically and stylistically. Offering is a large and lavish triptych with a swine's head as the main subject. In appreciation for the sacrifice animals make for our meals, Lapotre dresses a swine's face and a cow's hoof s with jewels and silk.

Lee Piechocki, who currently lives and works in Lawrence, Kansas, challenges our notions of conventional still life by rendering them technically uncomplicated and compositionally offbeat. In a series of six paintings, the artist imagines how life can occur atop a white enamel table.

Professional Chicago and San Francisco architectural photographer and multi-media artist Michael David Rose will exhibit select shadow box collages. Using residual materials from his life he comments on our current situation on earth. Paying great attention to color scheme and design , Rose creates an aura in each that is greater than the sum of it's parts.

David Van Ness (www.davidvanness.com), is a digital sculptor taking advantage of the possibilities of production and modern materials. Van Ness will exhibit one hundred of his boxy, miniature Stacking Cows. Van Ness creates a digital file of the sculpture and then has them mass-produced by a Chinese manufacturer. The process echoes his beliefs about consumption in today's world. The arrangement or installation of these pieces is an open-ended interpretation.

Recent MFA recipient from Tyler School of Arts, Shelby Donnelly (www.shelbydonnelly.com) will exhibit a larger than life silk and thread sculpture of a single sheet of loose-leaf paper. Document is a cross between a painting and a quilt. The blank sheet of paper symbolizes both the idea of a clean slate as well as a false start in the process of creating.

OFFERINGS STATEMENT:
it may look provocative and shocking but it wasnt meant to be.
I made my best not to make it shocking by avoiding blood, i made my best to respect this dead animal.
I used fashion magazines/luxury visual codes to criticize the barbarism of consumerism.
I extract nowadays society mytholgy as a pagan cult,
for example many tribal socities offer shells to the sea when they fish their meal, to thank the sea/nature.
This is why i put jewelry on a swine and cow foot, animals we grow in a very crual way, like goods in a factory.
