I am...
I’m a self-taught artist and fulltime creator. For most of my life I’ve created art mostly for myself. Since I didn’t go to an art school and I was kind of introvert when it comes to my creativity, I never really learned to share my creativity. But now I’m ready to share it with the whole world!

In my teen years I grew up mostly alone with my father in Amsterdam. Art was always there. My high school for instance was just around the corner of the Rijksmuseum that houses Rembrandt's famous painting "The Night Watch". I have visited the museum many times. Other famous museums in the neighbourhood were/are the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum (modern art).

One of my greatest examples growing up was my father. It wasn’t easy for him to be a singer/entertainer/artist and at the same time raise a young man in Amsterdam. I have tremendous respect for the fact that he took his responsibilities as a father seriously and now he continues to be my greatest role model on how to be a good father to my kids.

I am a member of Mensa, the high-IQ society. I’ve been a member since 1999, which gave me much needed confidence in myself. In 2003 after some turbulent years I was finally diagnosed with ADHD and Avoidant Personality Disorder. I then had all the pieces of the puzzle to understand the depth of my being.
About my artwork
Most of my art pieces are personal but yet I try to present them in an open way because “my truth might be someone else’s truth too”.

The way I create art is very conceptual. Many different ideas come together in an art piece. I cannot create art purely for the beauty of it and believe me I’ve tried. That eventually something might be classified as beautiful is because of my sense of balance. Even the slightest imbalance in every aspect of my life is enough to set my brain off in order to find balance again. My pursuit for balance started at the age of 8 and is born out of imbalance. Apparently my walnut interior is filed with raging fireflies trying to make sense of it all. But when they find the right classifications, balance is created and they start to reproduce. This is the moment when I release them into my art. And then,

"MY ART HOLDS MY VISION UNTIL IT IMPREGNATES YOUR BRAIN WITH IT"; now it’s your turn to feel the fireflies!

EXTRA NOTE
I just recently realised that I'm an outsider artist. But I feel like an outsider artist who does not create outsider art.

I think that without the internet most people (even family and friends) would have found out about my art till after I was dead. I never saw my art as a special thing that I needed to share with anyone until I came across websites on the internet that talked about how art has changed many people’s lives.

Personally I believe that the better spread of knowledge through news papers, libraries, TV, internet etc. has changed the core meaning of the outsider artist in the western society. I don’t think you’re going to find any artist in our society who is not influenced by something like an image, story, art, music etc. they saw or heard about in the media. Still I think that outsider artists use this knowledge differently than artists who are standing with one foot or both feet in the art world and its history.

I'm still a loner when I create art, that much hasn’t changed yet and I don't care much for the commercial value of my art even though I do want to reach as many people as possible since I've learned that art can mean a lot in people's life. I guess I’m an outsider artist who’s trying to go inside.
Artists I like
Leonardo Da Vinci, M.C. Escher, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami.

THE SERIOUS CEREAL CLOWN

Chestnut glass aluminium square,
why do you portray me as a rage of snare?
Why can’t you be, like my bowl of fish,
so peace and tranquillity, will fuge my is.
Flakes o flakes, pop pop pop,
yes I know, the clock clon clow.
All that is covered behind a bowl,
all to be, is a serious, cereal, clown.

The Philosophy of Influentialism Art

The Escape (17-12-2006) (These texts were written before my discovery of the crunchicles) THE BIRTH OF INFLUENTIALISM After finishing " The Escape" in the middle of the night, I laid down for some relaxation on the couch and turned on the TV. The only light in the room wa…

My Two Worlds

WHY I AM WHO I AM Staying a mystery to many people for most of my live has caused me to alienate them. I wasn’t very open about the real me and some weren’t very interested into knowing about the real me because of this. Everything has a “why” and by writing about my “why” I hope I can help others understand their own depressions, extreme shyness, insecurity, feelings of guilt or any other “internal affaire” they might be stuck with. I understand their struggle because I understand mine. That’s… Continue

The Crunchicles

THE CRUNCHICLES (1995- ) Post-Modernism is over; at least its dominance over the western world. Most western societies have shifted into a new cultural movement: the crunchicles. So what are the crunchicles? The crunchicles are the chronicles of the crunch. Everything is crunching down on us, including ourselves. But, before I continue, I want two things to be clear 1) I am not a professional art critic nor do I want to be one. I just like to think about what’s going on in the world an… Continue

Influentialism Art Movement Manifesto

Influentialism Art Movement Manifesto Or I AM Manifesto Founded by Leeyon Romany, 2006 1) Influentialism Art Movement is Creativity **** I AM = Creativity **** I AM Creativity. 2) I AM is concerned with two aspects of the influentialism theory: “the small hold the large” and “creativity”. 3) The small hold the large: the concept that everything in the universe is made up of smaller things. This leads to the notion that nothing is 100% new, because all objects (creations) are b… Continue

Hi Leeyon
some of your work is interesting. Your concept of the crunchicles and Influentialism seem kind of simplistic. postmodernism was looking in the rearview mirror, in my and McLuhans view. Modernism was ideological. Why should the events of the world crunch us? maybe they will expand us or we will expand in response. You are right in saying that information is more available. Art can come from anywhere. Science, the spirit, shamanism, social theory, and personal exploration can be starting places for art, among others. There are also conservative movements always in the wings- the Pleine-Aire Movement among them, and different genre painting
Work on the manifesto- it is a good place to start

Hi Leeyon .. I find your work very interesting .. somewhere along the lines of mosaic and pastiche with elements of cubist fragmentalism .. if that sounds correct, anyway, pleasing to the eye and with a sense of awareness .. I think we also have similar influences - and I find your blog interesting .. have a look at my work, and add me in my friend .. {;o)
