I am...

a Portuguese artist who lives and works near Lisbon, in a village next to Serra da Arrábida. I'm renowned for my painting, both on wood and paper, but i also develop other types of work: landscape boxes – wall installations that portrait nature’s artificiality as translated by art, video – mostly executed from photographs, and other installations.

About my artwork

There are two instances inherent to my work. They result from the dependency from themes such as:
Form – the physical matter in its organic aspect, the corporality of painting, its existence – searching formal diversity, creating and recreating through a conducive thread, mutating what is implied.
Place – the source of inspiration, encompassing all the magic the underlies something that is unknown, integrating the need to search and explore a path, not knowing where it will end, always expecting to find a place intact, that man still hasn’t touched – a primordial place.
My creative process is a fusion of two instances: figurative representation, delineation and assumption, to imagine through drawing. On a second level, partially transforming the figurative representation into an abstraction, making it informal through its own record, constantly exploring the asymmetries, the chromatic game and the articulation between the lines in a geometric balance, valuing the importance of the composition.
