ThoughtS nEGATIVe, THIS IS ANALYTICAL, WORD STRUCTURE NOT SPOKEN

After what seems like an eternity there is finally some new work featured at re-presentedgallery.org. These three pieces continue my exploration of conceptual art through issues of analytical (conscious) - intuitive (subconscious) intellect. Each explores language as a structure to contain memories as documents and documents as memories. http://www.re-presentedgallery.org/ThoughtSnEGATIVe.html http://www.re-presentedgallery.org/This_is.html http://www.re-presentedgallery.org/Wordstructuresnotspoken.html

June 08 Studio Images Uploaded

Its been a busy month working with James Smith to build and upload Recto-Verso, followed by reviewing FOURM’s first Archisonics publication. However, I have also managed to find some time in the studio to continue developing the long term investigation of the notebook pages. The latest images are now up on the site and can [...]

RECTO-VERSO LIVE AT RE-PRESENTEDGALLERY

RECTO-VERSO is a recent outcome from an ongoing and open-ended enquiry into the use of appropriated sources as ingredients for the formation of new-media works. Potentially producing unique sounds indefinitely, in this work text and images are constantly collected from frequently updated internet news pages through a series of automated processes, and projected as abstracted sonic languages through (potentially) any number of channels. The work can be discussed in two parts: the first outlining the methodologies and processes behind the design and construction of the ‘template’ digital environment that produced this work (and several other similar outcomes), and the second looking at its specific applications in the making of RECTO-VERSO.

FOURM | ARCHISONICS “Sonifying Architecture”

FOURM | ARCHISONICS “Sonifying Architecture” WHITE_LINE EDITIONS: 006.001 FOURM have recently sent a copy of their first collection of sound works and texts “Sonifying Architecture”, a limited edition CD/ Booklet published through fourm.wordpress.com. Having featured excerpts from the sound works and an introduction to the text at re-presentedgallery.com earlier this year I have been eagerly [...]

Artists Statement

My work explores the re-presentation of ideas as constructed, visual, oral and conceptual stimuli, considering the associated histories of these ideas through both intellectual and emotional responses. The works form part of an ongoing and open ended… Continue

Hey Karl: yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. That some of your feelings as an arts professional make their way into the work from that perspective - the boundary pieces seemed infused with that awareness around the artificial presentation of objets d'art without being cynical about it...the thing itself and the vehicle/structure/dressing that presents it are held together in a neutral equal balance for contemplation. I guess that's what's interesting to me about it, that I can contemplate both separately and equally and shift back and forth. That's a fine balance to calibrate without other emotions filtering into it. Plus, I appreciate the slightly rough aesthetic, that you're not precious with it, it adds an honesty to it to have it speak to a street aesthetic (literally!) rather than something turned toward greater artifice. Ya, I'm diggin the thinkin....and curious where you take it next. Cheerios!

i like little venice, nice piece. and takes me back.
the boundary pieces are curious, the awkwardness of that demarcation is really pushed to the forefront while the invitation waits just beyond - interested to see where you take them. plus they and the earlier floor works seem to comment not only on individual/social spaces but also on gallery spaces and the space of presentation of the (art) object, the 'staging' areas for thought, etc. and you have this minimalist structural aesthetic that frames some very loaded expression in other works (4 walks, recycled stuff, etc). thx, it is interesting to engage with some of your ideas. cheers!
