Artist
If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Painting, Performance
I am...
a New York City painter and sometime performance artist who has worked as an assistant to the late Gordon Matta-Clark, had work included in shows at Leo Castelli gallery, Holly Solomon Gallery, Edward Thorp Gallery and Brooke Alexander Gallery, and performed at the Kitchen, Franklin Furnace, the Mudd Club, and the Whitney Museum.
About my artwork
My work is about being in two places at the same time. I begin each painting with a pair of line drawings depicting two distinct subjects, These are laid one over the other to form an eccentric grid, which is the structure in which an abstraction is developed. One that, in slow reveal, lets the viewer see both subjects and the space they generate when they interact.
Artists I like
I like artists who address figuration, and find new space for it. Chuck Close has been very helpful, and Neo Rausch inspiring.
Interests
Music is another big interest. I have recorded more than forty songs on Garage Band. Literate thrillers like those of Michael Connely and Lee Child are also a favorite pleasure.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Neo Rausch at Zwirner is the best in NY right now
