I am...
a Dutch artist working at the artist in residency Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin from april 2008 till april 2009. Before I worked just with the medium photography, at the moment developing a videowork as well as installation works. Also busy publishing my artist book, which exists of photographs and contains 2 parts: Playing Borders and Becoming Blue. Next year winter, the book will be there hopefully!
About my artwork
The convergence of my divers (photographic) works is one of the most important factors in my work. With this, I create the whole. I consider my works to be photographic pictorial essays, which consist of stimulating associative combinations of images. My works put you in the position to give your own interpretation. I want to motivate the onlooker in using his or her imagination, but the work must stimulate you to think and reflect as well. The associative character of my photos makes my images evoke questions. I find it more exciting to give the viewer a push in the back than to explain as clearly as possible what the meaning of my images (according to my vision) is. I try to evoke something from the viewer, and to challenge him to playfully form his own story.
Artists I like
Lorna Simpson, Julika Rudelius, Wolfgang Tillmans, Francis Bacon, Sarah Lucas, Sophie Calle....blabla bla and more coming in our next conversation.
Interests
human condition, mental state of mind, philosophy, weltschmerz, troubles, swimming, dancing, musika, film.... blabla bla and more coming in our next conversation.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
Neue National Gallery Berlin, Hiroshi Sugimoto.
KW institute Berlin, geschlossene Gesellschaft.
The centre of the artworld is
New York, London, LA, Berlin, Beijing, my studio, online, nowhere and everywhere, another city

Hi Anouk! Welcome to artreview.com! :-) Your works look really amazing - so much interesting and different content going on there....with the portrait images, the landscape minus the human form, as well as the images of the body melding into the space / structure (like Number 45, 97 and 83). The blue portrait photographs really capture the psychological tension and state of the characters - great - they slightly remind me of Egon Schiele sketches - really interesting. You must be enjoying Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien lots - would be great to visit!
