Why Do Artists Promote Their Art To Other Artists?

Since I have been selling my art online, I often become frustrated after joining different 'art gallery' sites when I receive a promo about other artist's works.
Do they think I am going to buy their art work? That's like a car dealer trying to sell another car dealer one of his/her cars.
As artists we all would love to sell more art, but I'm not sure another artist is your most lucrative customer.
What do other artists think about this topic?

Oh, I left my calling card in case there are other non-artists viewing these pages.--:)

Artists appreciate the work that goes into other artists work so an exchange of appreciation on a job well done, can sometimes come in the way of purchasing another artist's work, perhaps showing up at an event.... We are all consumers, dreamers and hopeless romantics :) but even I would get tired of gazing at only my own works on my walls for the rest of my life :) Claudette

G'evening, Klaire aka,
hmmmm...:-))) I'm sorry, but I found your reaction a bit amusing! - PLEASE don't be angry with my cause this phrase!
Why not profited these propo? It's nothing bad!
OK, for example: I have a project for one nice appartement or office for "reloocking-redecorated".
Not always is possible "profited" the work or style of myself or I don't have enough of time for created "new", so I search another professional on arts...
I make it always with real pleasure - new good Friends are greatly welcome!

i use art websites not so much for selling art as building relationships with other artist, that way you can get feedback from others that know where your coming from.and recieving posts on others artwork just makes me want to paint more it, inspires me.because i can refer people to my website myself to buy works and most people who are interested in original art usually wont buy online but they do buy reprints, also most people who buy art must look at a piece for sometime before they will buy it.art is not an impulse buyso use the sites get inspired ,get feedback and enjoy the world of art

You are right. Sometimes I guess I get a little impatient and want to go directly into a story. I like to tell stories. Most of the time the story will explain something, but answer questions I don't know. I will continue trying.

Well, some other artists buy work!

It's not that I would be trying to sell my work to other artists, more like building a base of people that know your work and making friends along the way. From that base you will get people from their base that may want to purchase the work? Yet you may be making a friend to me a friend is more valuable than a piece of work in the first place.

As a professional artist I love swapping art with my own its a great way to collect other artists work. Best to sell your own for sure but if you have the means and can buy as well as sell then hey whats the prob..

Example: Your the 2nd hand car dealer you sell a lot of cars but you dream of owning a Porsche okay be it 2nd hand but hey you have been saving and you could buy one. But you don't sell the Picasso of all cars because well your a 2nd hand car dealer at this stage in your own car dealership so you have to go to another car dealer who deals with the better class of car.

But yes it is rare to find a car dealer going to another car dealer but hey it can and does happen some artists start collecting this way and end up dealing in art and running galleries themeselves eventually

So don't be to quick to dismiss other car dealers Rolls Royce be it a little high on mileage and scratched

Interact is important to artists, live oysters don't think that helps anybody.
Here in Art Review, since I arrived I met a lot of people, some we are already friends, the site helped me get out of the remote location where I was.

Sometimes, it's not just about lucre. Often, it's about professional enrichment that comes along with membership in a professional community. While profit hopefully pays the bills, it's knowledge and skill that build the profit.
