Calls for festivals, art residencies and other events

I decided to share with you guys (in the hope that others also start sharing) some of the call for participations that I come across.

I do a lot of research to find the best festivals, the ones that enjoy art videos, are competitive and also don't charge entry fee. About the residencies, the best ones don't also charge the artist, or even give some kind of support.

So please, dear members of Video Artists, let's stick together and help each other find these opportunities!

Frieze Film 2008: Road Movie, Frieze Art Fair, London

Frieze Film 2008: Road Movie, Frieze Art Fair, London

make your own movie...
make someone else's movie...
make it your mission to read
'The Road'...
make a small part of a bigger whole...
make it on YouTube...
Make it into Frieze Art Fair

Frieze Film 2008 announces Road Movie, an experiment in film making, authorship and dispersal made in response to the way in which digital platforms such as YouTube have made film a medium freely available to all.

Road Movie will be a film made by artists and filmmakers in response to an open invitation issued by Frieze Film. Road Movie will be produced and distributed on the Frieze Film 2008 group on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/group/friezefilm2008 , and on the Frieze Film website http://www.frieze.com/film . The final result will be a film made in an entirely new way: the first multi-authored fractal film assembled from the sum of its submitted parts.

Inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s 2006 novel ‘The Road’, Frieze Film will not have a conventional narrative: in addition to submitting original material visitors to YouTube will be able to download and refashion existent clips, spurring a chain-reaction of multiple narratives and occurrences: Road Movie will be wholly individual and collective.

Frieze Film will be shown in Channel 4’s admired ‘3 Minute Wonder’ slot during the week of Frieze Art Fair from Monday 13 October to Thursday 16 October at 7.55pm.

For 2008, the new exquisite corpse video has become arborescent. It will be launched on March 12th in a partnership with Vidéoformes with
the following rules:
1 – To participate, each author must go to the website: http://babiloff.free.fr/projets_08/cadexq-08.html in order to download a video trace of 2 seconds of a
preceding author available on the site to appropriate for him or herself, to rework the image as well as the sound, and link it with his or her own contribution
whose total length can not be more than 30 seconds.
The 2 seconds of video are published in the format QuickTime DVPal, and can be freely downloaded via QuickTime Pro software that works on both Mac
and PC.
2 – Each new video contribution, once finished, must be sent back in the DVPal SD (720x576) QuickTime format. The video must be sent via Internet download
at the following email address: babiloff.cadexq08@free.fr specifying the URL of the download as well as the name of the author of the contribution that will be
included in the credits. Once received, the last 2 seconds will be detached and put on the site, replacing the 2 seconds of the preceding author.
If several authors answer simultaneously, they will all be included in the current project, at the same level, branching out into new arborescences of the exqui-
site corpse. The next participants will thus have several choices to continue the exquisite corpse.
3 – The first author to send in his/her contribution starting March 12, 2008, will become the root of the exquisite corpse 2008.
4 – The contributions must be original and conform to the regulations concerning copyright. In addition, each participant must accept the non-exclusive
transfer of his/her rights for all broadcast, in any format and for all countries, organized by Babiloff or Vidéoformes, relative to the representation of the
program titled “Exquisite Corpse Video 08”.
5 – The “Exquisite Corpse Video 2008” is open to any natural person or legal entity from any country who accepts all of the aforementioned rules.
6 – The “Exquisite Corpse Video 2008” will end in one year and the result will be presented at the next edition of Vidéoformes before being published online
at the Babiloff website.

Hmmm... another interesting corpse. "Corpsing" will soon be a major fad, I think. This one should prove worthwhile, and I'm inclined to participate at some point.

Perhaps this is also good MO for our video-bank project.

BTW, anyone considering reading Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" (it's a HELL of a book) should know that most people have found it impossible to put down until they're done (should take about 3-5 hours), and then a good hour of weeping is required afterwards. So, plan your day accordingly.
