Do you know of Galleries that specialise in showing Women's Art?

I know of the "Woman Made" Gallery [Chicago], Foundation for Womens Art [London] and 'The Society Of Women Artists" [also UK] but you have to be elected! [Thats not really what I'm after]

I wondered if anybody knew of any more, or even shows that an Artist at the beginning of their career could get involved with.

...you have to apply to show your work, so many times and then - i think - that someone who is already a member has to nominate you!!! That is for 'The Society of Women Artists'. The foundation I know nothing about, and the 'Womens Made gallery' you have to pay to display, $24 as it is in the States.

Thank you Amy, I might look at it but it all sounds rather 'it isnt what you know, or how good your art is, but who know' - not fair at all xx

Life can be hard being an artist.x xx

What about ARC in Chicago? They are totally run by women. Also, the most fantastic place to show is in Austin, TX at the place called Women and Their Work.

The National Asc. of Women Artist in New York is one that I know of. and the Museum of women artist. in Washington DC.
Also the Women Caucus in Orange County, CA. I 'm sure there are many more. The problem with thesegroups is that they do not have many prominent artists as members and therefore little visability or recognition, ( Except for the Museum. in DC).
As soon as a women become successful in the art world, gender seems to become unimportant. Which is a good thing because art is about art and not about gender--unless your creative process is about it. We must therefore become more powerful in our artistic statements.
I have my own group of 6 women artist. We have been supporting each other and sharing information for years. this is the best way to do it for me otherwise you have to collects dues and have meetings. I rather have meeting in my studio and discuss art over a bottle of wine. Carol

I was part of “Her Mark 2007”, a datebook and an exhibition made by Woman Made Gallery in Chicago. It was a great experience, great people, it cost a few dollars to apply but I think may be worth to try it.

Is this an annual event ? Did you send them a proposal ? Carol

I'm pretty sure it is an anual thing, they were recently asking for submissions... Actually it the womens gallery that looks and feels the most 'authentic' to me. As in, I feel they are not afraid of being women.
