Museum planned for Saddam Hussein's former palace in Basra

A museum for antiquities is being planned for a palace in Basra formerly belonging to Saddam Hussein, reports The Art Newspaper. The project was initiated by the British Army in collaboration with Dr Mufid al-Jazairi, chairman of the cultural committee of the Iraqi parliament. The British Museum may consult on the museum, which will draw on the collection of Baghdad's National Museum. The project has already been approved by the Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism, and has now gone to prime minister Nouri al-Maliki for a final decision.
