Worst flooding in Venice in over 20 years

Just a week after the Venice architecture biennale closed, the city is suffering its worst flooding in more than 20 years, forcing residents and tourists to wade knee-deep in the water, reports the Associated Press. Following heavy rain, the sea level stood at 156 centimeters on Monday, well past the 110-centimeter flood mark. Alarms went off this morning to alert citizens to the floods. The last time Venice suffered such high waters was in 1986; the highest level ever was 194 centimeters, in 1966.
