The Japanese filmmaker and comic-book artist Satoshi Kon has died, aged 46. The director made his debut in 1997 with Perfect Blue, which was followed by Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika and a television series Paranoia Agent. The Dream Machine, the director's fifth film, will be released posthumously. Kon penned a final public statement for his blog (English translation here) – posted by family members yesterday. He signed off with the epitaph "Now excuse me, I have to go".
