Michael Snow sues TIFF Bell Lightbox developers

Michael Snow if off to court, the Toronto Star reports. The artist and video pioneer is seeking CAN$950,000 in damages from the developers of an apartment block in Toronto, after Snow claims they reneged on a commission for a public art work from him. The apartment block is adjacent to and on top of the Bell Lightbox, the new home to the Toronto International Film Festival. Snow says that though no contract had even been signed, he was counting on the good faith of the King John Festival Corporation – a venuture involving the festival – and has worked on his idea for a large-scale sculpture over many years.
