According to the
LA Times, Jeffrey Deitch and LA MOCA have designs on the LA Municipal Art Gallery in Hollywood's Barnsdale Park, as the city's cash-strapped government looks to outsource several of its art facilities, in the hopes of saving $1.3 million a year. MOCA director Deitch has toured the gallery with his curators and staff. The Municipal Art Gallery's supporters are reportedly concerned that the move would homogonise the city's exhibitions - the Municipal has a reputation for showing Southern Californian artists that don't have the acclaim of the international art world. There are concerns that the areas artworld could be increasingly stratified, leaving out artists that do not fit within a particular type of vision for LA and for the art of the area.
