Shamed ex-lawyer and convicted fraudster Marc Dreier's art collection – which includes works by Damien Hirst, Jasper Johns, Warhol, Matisse and de Kooning – could be put up for auction this November, reports
Law.com. The trustee in charge of liquidating Dreier LLP, Sheila M. Gowan of Diamond McCarthy, is seeking permission from the courts to sell the collection through Phillips de Pury, with the proceeds going towards paying creditors.
Charged in 2009 with conspiracy to commit securities fraud, money laundering and wire fraud, related to a mammoth scheme to sell $700 million worth of bogus promissory notes to outside investors, Dreier is now serving a 20-year sentence. Should the auction be permitted, at least some sort of justice will be made for the victims of Dreier's crafty ways.
