Egyptian minister questioned over Van Gogh theft

Farouk Hosni, the Egyptian culture minister has volunteered himself for police questioning regarding last month's theft of the Van Gogh paintings from the the Mohamed Khalil Museum, the New York Times reports. The museum proved to have a rather lax approach to security, with no alarms and only seven of 43 cameras in working order when Poppy Flowers and Vase with flowers – valued at $50m – were stolen, while the museum's guards were praying, in the middle of the day. At this point Hosni does not face formal accusations of negligence though last week police brought senior official and four security guards into custody for questioning, though as yet no one has been formally charged.
