Art is our defense against the cruelty of life, and, more important, against the unknown nature of death. It is a joy and a mystery; and makes of life a lifelong hope and defense against the great Nothing, the Nada, the void that is so fearful to so many. So we must participate in art, in whatever way we can, and make it ours, use it as we would use an arm or a mind.
