I am...
Artist in Residence and Artes Mundi Nominee 2010.
Nicola Tucker, a graduate with honours in Art and Aesthetics, specialises in ‘Conflict and War’ art, is an international mediator and lives for her family and love of art. Nicola has also for many years taught English and Communication studies. Highly respected within many communities both locally and globally, her talents for organising events and fundraising are widely sought.
This work was not created to address war memorials. This work considers the repercussions of persecution and expulsion of people resulting in what’s left behind- remnants.
What once was-remains-isolated alone without a trace of its inhabitants the structures are separated -yet together- they stand- once- belonging.”
Her previous Holocaust Memorial exhibition in the Vale included one of her archive sleeve studies. The Gift, showed a collection of drawings and paintings recounting the journey of people Nicola met and whom she travelled with in Eretreia and Ethiopia during the war of 1992 and 1993. During these self funded trips Nicola established, maintained and registered a clinic designed to aid people who had become maimed due to landmines. She also travelled with The Foreign Legion into remote areas, locating and helping people who had been shot or become disfigured due to the conflict. Her work with critically injured people in remote areas was recognized by the Foreign Legion in its award of the Medal for Bravery'. These experiences have driven the spirit of her work since.
About my artwork
Please if you get the chance do visit me at Saatchi
Nicola Tucker previously exhibited her work as an intrinsic part of the Vale’s inaugural commemorative Holocaust Exhibition in 2008/2009, held in conjunction with the National Holocaust Memorial Day and hosted at Art Central, the Vales prestigious gallery in Barry.
Nicola’s knowledge in this area and the development of her art work was invaluable for this unique exhibition.
“One of the common threads which will run through my work is ‘place’. This hand made study entitled Shtetls (Wooden community home) considers the disappearance of the vast majority, through forced ghettoiszation, destruction, terrorisation and extermination.
This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of
‘Professor Alfred Moritz’

i found your work very moving and powerful. i visited the Holocaust Museum in NYC and have an interest in WWll as well. Please have a look at my work, which is predominantly about submissive/subjugated women and the Patriarcal/Dominant male power that controls them as i can see links between our work that is not immediately obvious.
