About my artwork
I work primarily with video and photography.

I'm concerned with examining the connections between the camera, subject, author and viewer. I'm interested in issues such as the construction of identity, communication and voyeurism. I also investigate how the relationship between our body and the surrounding world (ie. nature or urban settings and culture) shapes our identity.

My greatest challenge is to find new forms of narrative by confronting established film language. I construct narratives, strategies and perceptions of reality, in search of fresh ways to connect with the viewer, defying his/her own perception of the world and proposing thought-provoking sensorial and emotional experiences.

I've been also busy with the Exquisite Corpse Video Project, a collaboration project with several international artists, which started here in artreview. More info at www.artreview.com/profile/excorpse

Essay on the EXQUISITE CORPSE VIDEO PROJECT

DIGITAL BLIND DATE

By Juliana Monachesi

The Exquisite Corpse Video Project, having embraced random and chaotic processes, departs from the Dadaist method of creation. Each artist responds to the ten seconds of video sent by the previous artist with one minute of his own, from which he sends the last ten seconds to the next artist. The result is video that runs about ten minutes. The power of a video made by twenty hands surpasses the current vogue of the collective… Continue

Essay on Tropic of Capricorn

Digital Spectrum of the Body, by Caroline Rodrigues

North-American Minimalism brought up to modern art the possibility of radical changes in the observer`s point-of-view, according to the space in which the art work is inserted. From this though some of the most creative fields of nowadays` art emerge: Public Art as an existence outside galleries and Video-Art as the nature of digital moving image inside these institutions. When the spatial configuration is changed, the time… Continue

Essay on Kika Nicolela's videos

I WOULD BELIEVE ONLY IN A GOD WHO COULD DANCE, by Daniella Samad

Kika Nicolela is a “visual-filmmaker” artist. She graduated in Film Studies, but her videos are always exhibited within the art circuit. The videos that will be screened in both programs of this exhibition articulate between the boundaries of the pictorial and the corporeal.

In PASSENGER, the hand that holds the camera and records everything is guided by a deconstructive and deformative gaze, which breaks… Continue

Essay on Flux

DOLL, by Juliana Monachesi

“How the body could protect itself from the big wounds and welcome the more subtle wounds? This quote belongs to the Brazilian philosopher Peter Pál Pelbart, echoing Nietzsche and Deleuze, on the wandering of the body that cannot stand being coerced anymore by the civilizing forces and the disciplinary technologies. The body, in order to stay alive, needs to let itself be affected by the contact with the world.

In the film by Kika Nicolela and… Continue

Essay on Face to Face

by Carla Zaccagnini

Contents of the love dimension, which punctuate the limits of the understandable and utterable, tend to put in check the validity of any artistic representation. I think, again, on Fernando Pessoa and his poem in which he feels tired of symbols and wants the concrete happiness of the seamstress who he sees standing on the corner, waiting for the unlikely return of the boyfriend who left her. There are no symbols that can compare to the joy which only she… Continue

.. NESTE MOMENTO , ela observa , e chega a conclusao , que perante a gloriosa natureza , ela NADA MAIS È , DO QUE UMA PEQUENISSIMA MUHLER !.. com suas largas ANCAS femininas ¨!!!... bela musica! ¨tecnicamente muito bem feito !!... gosto do preto e branco !... è condizente com o INTERNO misterioso do humano afeminado !
