About my artwork
There was muddle and confusion in my head. Jewish, Ukrainian, Russian cultural roots. My first design degree, then a second and a fight for survival in-between. As result, the art was, for me, a door to escape from vanity.
Its a cycle of life. Artists, manners, poses, styles... Faces were full of stress and pain that I could see, even through the smiles. I felt that I wanted to cover them with masks, perhaps for protection or for conciliation.
There was escape in contemplation and serenity. Things are calm, if no one accelerates them. What are these things? They are created by human beings for a specific purpose – they look the way that they are suposed to: beautiful, comfortable, and shiny. What if we extract the thing from its original environment and turn off the advertising light, damp down all sounds?
About 15 years ago I came across a book with hidden pictures. If you concentrate your view on a specific spot behind the surface of the page, then suddenly, a 3-D object arises in the space in front of the many trivial articles. The more you concentrate, the more defined details come out to your view.
I felt the need to get behind the surface of the “page” but focus myself on the eternity inside the thing. Or to focus on it in the surrounding by dark matter, lit up from the inside.
Here is the appropriate time to note the words of Kazimir Malevich, “Nature is hidden inside infinity and universality. It doesn’t show itself in objects. It doesn’t have any language, any form, it is internal and immense. The miracle of nature is that it can be included inside a small tiny granule, but be so huge that nobody can grasp it. The human holding that granule is holding the whole Universe, and at the same time he cannot envision it in spite of its visual derivation and ‘scientific grounding’. You must see into that granule to discover the integrity of the Universe.”
