I am...
Born outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1982, artist Charles Lutz attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where he began dealing with the themes of commerce, luxury, and the art world at large. Soon after Lutz began his collaborative relationship with menswear designer Yoko Devereaux, working on projects for Surface Magazine, Time Out New York, and Terminal 5. Lutz has also worked for such artists as Jeff Koons and McDermott and McGough. In early 2007 Lutz began the series “Denial and Acceptance” which was based on a series of 12 replicated Andy Warhol Self Portraits that were formally sent to the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board to have intentionally denied, stamped, and catalogued. Therefore creating officially denied Warhol self-portraits authored by artist Charles Lutz. From these works, a body of over 400 works were created that will be cataloged on the artist’s website for the series, warholdenied.com. Lutz is currently working on an ambitious series of 15 round paintings that critique the current art culture, through the uses of contemporary photographs, 19th century decorative arts motifs, as well as political cartoons of that period. The artist currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
About my artwork
The Denial and Acceptance series by Charles Lutz is a commentary on the easily reproducible aspect of Warhol’s work and the dilemmas that this incurs. The series forces the viewer to look at works that are identical copies of Warhol’s work and ask themselves amongst other things, is this art? What is art? What is authorship? Is it possible to make conceptual art from something that was already considered art in another context? When looking at Warhol’s work, largely we are looking at reproductions of existing images that have been intended for mass-reproduction and consumption. Warhol and the pop art movement took the everyday banal images of a culture and raised them to the level of fine art. In our current culture these images have come full circle. Warhol’s Marilyn, Campbell’s soup cans, and Elvis, appear on clothing, bags, snowboards, and countless other products as mere decoration. The series Denial and Acceptance brings “Warhol’s work” back into the realm of high art, while also challenging authenticity issues and questioning the artist’s original intent.
Artists I like
Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Banksy, Richard Prince, Richard Phillips, Tito Fuente

Warhol DENIED artist's fashion designs

The artist behind Warhol DENIED and The Denial and Acceptance Series was acknowledged Tuesday by Rozdeen.com. Charles Lutz has been a long time designer for the men's label Yoko Devereaux and was present Monday at a fashion show where Yoko Devereaux debuted their fall line with designs by Lutz based on his newest series of paintings.

Rozdeen states:

Hello Charles, You may certainly include me as a friend

The Problem of Health Care

At last! A layman's guide to the Government's healthcare reforms, explaining them in terms so simple they might have been written by a complete idiot, and charting the development of health care from the good old days to the present and beyond - with hilarious results! In fabulous stickman-o-vision, with bits of colour.…See More
