If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Digital, Drawing, Painting, Photography
I am...
having an UPCOMING SHOW:
O.K. Harris Gallery, New York, Oct 29 - Dec 3
Opening Reception: Saturday, Oct 29, 3 - 5
I will be exhibiting paintings from the "Ecce Brevem Tabulam Pictam" series: baroque minimalist acylics based on the idea of Ecce Homo.
About my artwork
Lush, meaningful paintings, wall-sculptures and digital images that primarily involve the confluence of opposites; and are based in art historical tradition, as well as a personal - and Judeo-Christian - iconography.
Though a range of imagery has been explored over the years, the work/vision remains coherent.
"Valerie Margolis is a deeply thoughtful artist, whose works reveal a subtly exploring mind. She has the ability to transform humble everyday materials into images imbued with a sparsely minimalist yet poetically suggestive aesthetic. Gifted with a finely tuned eye for color, Margolis manages to fuse personal, worldly and even disturbing associations with a rhythm-laden spirituality." - David Anfam, art historian & critic

Yes, I really like your new works; Both or them are fantastic. Would be nice to see them on a big wall :) No, I did not see James Turrell @ Gagosian London.... Will probably have the chance to see this wonderful master in Paris later....maybe....Hope you are doing fine, best wishes, Simon

Hello Valerie,
Thanks for that - "interesting" commentary? A bit of fun really, but wanted to say that I did it after last year's fiasco!
I've not managed a Frieze yet - autumn is always frantically busy in the day-job, so tend to "disappear" until after Christmas - this last year especially so. Maybe I'll try and see it next autumn - there have been several satellites too, some of which friends have been involved with, but I've missed them all (now that's true devotion to art education and my students - management take note - pay rise please!)
Mind you, London is a long way for you to travel, isn't it? For me it's less than two hours on a train, and I don't go!?! Oh well...
Cheers, Mik
