About my artwork
Largely processed based, I see my practice as a kind of palimpsest: the partial erasure of what has gone before, the outcome of one work feeding into the next. Contingency plays a large part throughout these processes: I set up conditions for something to happen and some external force (such as gravity or a chemical reaction) influences part(s) of the work. The outcomes of these processes are often used in immersive installations in which the viewer is made to question their position/role in relation to the work. Unexpected elements within the installations lead to shifts in the viewers’ perceptions, causing confusion and doubt which mirror the uncertain times in which we live.
Over the past several years my work has largely been concerned with communication in a society of networks.
Artists I like
Eva Hesse, Louise Bourgeois, Mona Hatoum, Cornelia Parker, Cildo Meireles, Idris Kahn
