Sherry Mayo is an artist and an educator whose expertise stems from her own interdisciplinary studio practice and her understanding of technology integration into the artistic process. She has been exhibiting nationally and abroad since 1993 and has been publishing about digital aesthetics and new media culture since the mid-90s. Mayo's dissertation was a case study of cybernetic relationships in studio practices of eight artists who combined digital media into their art-making. These studies resulted in a culminating exhibition entitled, Synthetic Pleasures.

About my artwork

Currently, my work is pushing my notion of Cosmoscape, alternative landscape of some other space in between, to a elongated horizontal plane. These often large scale horizontal Cosmoscape incorporate very specific elements that at once look recognizable and escape identification. More synthetic than organic, more science fiction than scientific, these mutable moments in time encapsule notions of beauty in the contemporary.

What exhibitions are good at the moment?

I just finished the Whitney Biennial twice and can't say "good" is a useful term but found that it was still rigorously doing its job.
