About my artwork
Sharon Feder’s life-long commitment to painting is intense and unrelenting. Her journey in painting has taken her from her formal roots into the land of the abstract, to landscape, and back through portraiture and structural still life. Approaching painting as both an emotional communication with the observer and as a technical challenge, Feder breaks the rules and tests assumptions while always exploring the communication that exists between atmosphere, shadow, and reflection.

In the River North Series Feder’s attention is drawn to the very understated aspects of our vanishing industrial heritage, where rural and urban imagery blend. Painting these quiet structures and rail lines that etch the city’s edge is also a way for her to honor the stories and histories that are born in places such as this. These overlooked places exist nearly everywhere and, like skeletons, they invisibly support the lives that become more complex and louder as we spiral into the city centers.

Sense of Place opens in Sellars Project Space’s new location at 4383 Tennyson Street on Friday, June 5, 2009 with an exhibition for the… Continue
