If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Painting
I am...
A visual artist born in Lisbon, Portugal, living and working in Toronto, Canada. I am a primarily self-taught artist.
About my artwork
I am interested in looking at the inner workings of the human body, challenging art history's tendency to privilege representations of the surface of the body. My paintings are presented in light boxes --a reference to x-ray light boxes and the hidden perspectives of the human body which they reveal. The subject matter itself consists of abstract depictions of human cells.
Artists I like
James Turrell, Bruce Nauman, Anish Kapoor, HC Berg,

poets: Walt Whitman, Wallace Stevens

philosophers: Pascal, Montaigne, Kierkegaard, Nietszche
Interests
film, Afro Cuban music & playing the congas, gardening
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
The month of May is all about "Contact" a festival of photography in Toronto.

Muchas gracias por aceptar mi amistad.
Tus trabajos, una visión muy lírica que nos aproxima al origen de la vida. Todo ese mundo que palpita y que es dificil de visualizar.

oi, thanks so much for your offer! that's so kind of you. I've been twice to Toronto, but both times I was participating of festivals and/or exhibitions, so I never really got to know the city very well. I was always involved in the festival's events and parties.
I will be in town for only 4 days, this time as a tourist, with my mother! But I would love to have a coffee with you and see your studio. That'd be great.
Write me at kika@dilemastudio.com with your contact, if you want.
Obrigada!

oh I see. No problem then, just write me in English!
I really enjoyed your work. I'll be in Toronto end of July, will you have exhibitions then?

hello, thanks for the friend invite, I really like your work; the forms, the materials, use of light and the fluidity of the pieces. Enjoyed looking.

Beautiful, sensitive, engaging work. It really remarks well on the beauty, fragility and abstract nature of the human body. The x-ray/lightbox also reminds viewer of Nature being mediated by Science. Great work :-)
